Rob Smith from Smith Diamond Setting started a diamond setting apprenticeship in 1998 in London’s jewellery quarter – Hatton Garden. After completing the 6 year apprenticeship Rob started working for myself, initially setting for Hatton Garden and then eventually for West End clients and major luxury jewellery workshops, as well as self-employed craftsmen who are some of the finest in the trade.

Rob has invested in micro-setting equipment and microscope for fine micro-setting work and have undertaken further training in micro setting techniques. For some time now he has been persevering to increase his knowledge of working with a microscope and pneumatic air-powered tools, with the aim of enhancing his work. However, it is important to carry on the traditional techniques. He tries to combine both old and new to reach the best standard, so he also offers a full range of traditional diamond and gem setting services (rubover, flush, pave and claw work) to all clients, ranging from independent artisans and small local jewellers to major London companies as well as national work, and everything in between.
